We began as employees during our college years and in 1995 took a great leap and bought the company known as Gracious Catering. We became Gracious Events, Catering and Event Design, and expanded our services to provide creative and personalized from-scratch catering, floral and event design services. From our commitment to quality, fresh and innovative menus, and a history of producing exceptional events (throw in some really hard work and long hours!) an opportunity was born. We won the bid to open and operate the cafe at the Milwaukee Art Museum in 2001, when MAM opened its esteemed new Calatrava expansion.
While running the café, the desire to open our own restaurant grew, and in 2003 we opened Bjonda, a high-style restaurant and bar in Wauwatosa. Bjonda had a successful run, however, in 2007 we decided to take the restaurant in a different direction and create a more casual yet still creative and inventive dining experience. Bjonda became Firefly, and we are thrilled it has stood the test of time to become a Wauwatosa neighborhood favorite. True to our roots, Firefly also provides a beautiful setting for some of Milwaukee’s most memorable weddings and private parties of all kinds.
Side note, we are not just co-owners, we are sisters! We love delicious food, beautiful things, and good people. Bringing these elements together is what drives our passion to do what we do. With a strong European background in our family, from-scratch cooking, gathering at a table, and enjoying the natural bounties of what surrounds us has been our foundation. Both Firefly and Gracious are a fitting destiny.
Together, with our talented culinary and service teams, we work to create a beautiful setting where you can gather and share a delicious meal, made with the freshest ingredients, with those you love. “This place is amazing!! The food is SO GOOD. Good quality and variety, too, not just the usual burger and sandwich. We got the stuffed dates for an appetizer, WOW they are awesome. My boyfriend got the homemade pasta ragu, also very good. I got the sticky chicken, I loved it. We shared the chocolate lava cake-like dessert, which was also amazing. They have fun cocktails, too. Also can’t forget to mention how nice and cozy it is on the inside. We had a wonderful evening. 100% recommend If you haven’t tried this place yet, you need to go.”
“Great food and drinks. Patio outside allows dogs. The inside bar area is surprisingly large and the atmosphere is fun. Great music playing. Staff are friendly and give great service. Just steps away from the village bridge and close to everything in downtown Tosa.”
